Michael T. O’Halloran has been a bankruptcy lawyer for 33 years. The majority of his practice has focused on individuals and small businesses in financial crisis. He has confirmed numerous chapter 11 plans and has shepherded hundreds of clients through chapter 7, collectively discharging more than $500 million in debt.

Mr. O’Halloran has also represented numerous companies in out-of-court liquidations or restructuring proceedings and assignments for benefit of creditors. He has advised on private reorganizations and liquidations on behalf of various clients, dealing directly with creditors concerning payment and reorganization. Mr. O’Halloran has been retained and testified as an expert witness in California state court on bankruptcy issues and he has been retained as an expert by Federal Defenders of San Diego and by private criminal defense counsel in federal bankruptcy fraud criminal prosecutions.

Mr. O’Halloran’s undergraduate degrees are from UC San Diego. His law degree is from U.S.C. He is the author in two CEB treatises of chapters regarding bankruptcy law. He lectures regularly on bankruptcy topics. Twice, he was selected as Mediator of the Year by the bankruptcy judges of the Southern District of California. He was the San Diego Volunteer Law Program’s Lawyer of the Year in 2009. He is certified as a specialist in bankruptcy by the Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of California and certified as a consumer bankruptcy specialist and a business bankruptcy specialist by the American Board of Specialization. He enjoys bicycling and yoga and cooking with his wife.
